Lyon, Arthur

Arthur St. Clair Lyon was a legendary fencer of his era who was a 2 - time U.S. Men’s Saber Champion (1917 & 1919), was a member of 3 U.S. Olympic Teams (1920*, 1924, 1928) and brought the American fencing scene world-wide attention with the Olympic Bronze medal in Men’s Foil Team at the 1920 Games in Antwerp.

Mr. Lyon is the only American fencer to win a U.S. national team title in all 4 possible team events in US fencing history including: Men’s Foil Team, Men’s Epee Team, Men’s Saber Team, Men’s 3-Weapon Team. (representing the NY Fencers’ Club) And if those feats were not enough, he is one of only 2 men in US Olympic history to qualify for the Olympic fencing team in all 3 weapons. Mr. Lyon, a member of the Fencers’ Club and the New York Athletic Club, was the Captain of our 1924 US Olympic Team. He died in 1952.
